Things I liked:
Cool magic systems! If you like metal bending from Korra, you'll like this
Beautiful scenes and 'set pieces', the setting is largely Victorian Gothic
Great action scenes! I never got confused or disoriented the way I have in books like Iron Flame.
Pace was zippy once you reach the 40% mark (at least for me)
Engaging story! The twists!
Things I got hung up on:
Too much action without character development (in the beginning)
Suspension of disbelief strained exag erated by political system (the slave class "skaa" are not distinguishable from the ruling class, feels like total subjugation of the skaa wouldn't have been likely or absolute?)
Not a lot of physical character descriptions, you're kinda just left with knowing someone is tall, skinny, blonde or fat

Graphic: Physical abuse, Colonisation, and Classism
