Golden Rage Vol 1 by Lauren Knight, Chrissy Williams

3.0

I loved the art in this volume! The jewel tones mixed with pastels really worked for me. In the inner-monologue of the "main" character for each volume was also color coded which was helpful. The concept for this was cool - challenging ageism through kick ass grandmas on an island of castoffs (anyone who has gone through menopause, so not all grandmas). The confrontation with Red and how that wrapped up fell flat for me, it felt unbelievable even within this dystopian universe. How the conclusion was settled also fell flat for me. Both of those pieces really jolted me out of the story, which otherwise was fantastic. I also really liked that they collected the backmatter for the individual issues in this volume. That is the part of comics I miss the most when I read a trade as opposed to by issue. The concept and art - 5 stars. But those two bits... I just can't go higher than 3 stars.
