Honestly this was both exactly what I expected and somewhat surprising. First of all, take my review with a grain of salt. I am asexual. However I enjoy my fair amount of spicy content, so this has been on my list for a while. It was basically what I expected: not very serious porn with (barely) some plot. Personally, I didn’t really find any of the spicy scenes to be sexy. I found myself a bit taken out of the story when the sex scenes started. That sense was so unrealistic to the MCs situation, and I had a hard time getting past it. Not only that but, as I said, it didn’t feel sexy to me at all. I think it was just the tone of the writing/the book. From the very start there’s a lighthearted, joking, and humorous tone that simply did not match the dire situation of the MC and human cast. I feel like that alone made the romance and sex aspect fall flat for me.
That all being said, I did find the plot of this book relatively interesting. It was an entertaining read. I had fun! There was a twist in the second half of this book that reveals something about the tribe of alien barbarians that made me go “oh…” so I was pleasantly surprised by that aspect and really is the only reason why I would continue the series. Whether or not I will read further in the series is yet to be determined.
Also… pregnancy trope. Absolutely a turn off for me.
