Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie
5.0
The author does it again. No point in me going on about the merits of the book. There are too many to count in this meagre review space. However, I can try.
I added this book a while ago. But couldn't read it due to other commitments. Apparently, a bout of dengue fever and a grimdark book like this is exactly what one needs to gain some perspective on life.
The mark of a good author for me is if I keep thinking about the book when I'm not reading it. And this book does that. I felt for Jezal and the Dogman and West and Logen and Ferro and Glokta when I was doing mundane things. You could attribute that to the fever but I'll credit it to the author. The transformation of Jezal dan Luthar is one of the most heartwarming stories even in this grimdark story. I knew he would come around! He hasn't yet, but I'm sure he will.
This book ends at a cliffhanger and the most anti-climactic cliffhanger ever. I heard tropes were subverted but this is some good stuff right here.
Can't wait to pick up the next one!
