This Will Only Hurt a Little by Busy Philipps

3.0

Overall, this was one of the better celebrity memoirs I’ve read. Unfortunately, by the end some of the narcissism that made the beginning of the book interesting started to wear on me. It was hard to read about how much better her life got after she got a full time nanny, phrased like it was a normal part of everyone’s life (including taking them on your family Disney Cruise). It’s also hurt my soul to read all the problems she had with her husband not participating in child care/raising until he started doing Sunday mornings. Once he started parenting on Sunday mornings and her nanny went full time their relationship got better. That whole last third was simply bizarre to me. Does she think that’s standard behavior? She also so candid about she feels about people in her book, but has this weird awkwardness every time she discusses her husband’s friend, Lizzy Caplin. What’s that about?
