I think this is a great read for reflective people, particularly reflective kids and teens, since the story is based on the life of a boy starting to ask the big questions in life and evaluate his own behavior, identity, and place in the universe.

Great perspective from within Japanese culture as well--many similarities to my own American culture but lots of differences to be curious about, too. Another reason young people (particularly non-Japanese young people) might want to read.

I wish the women in the story were not such secondary characters, but not every good story has a focus on equal representation.

I look forward to the Miyazaki film interpretation.
