The Gashlycrumb Tinies by Edward Gorey

5.0

I absolutely love this book. I bought it because Edward Gorey came up in a conversation with my wife (who teaches preschool -- with a Montessori background), and I was surprised to learn she was unfamiliar with it. The version I got is only about 5" x 6" -- and I wish I had a larger version just to be able to more clearly see the details of these drawings. Overall, they're hilarious -- and probably not appropriate to today's preschool kids, although I know I first encountered this book when I was quite young--perhaps because I was drawn to morbid content. That is, while I think a lot of parents today would be plenty fine with their kids encountering this classic, it's highly likely it would ruffle some feathers, or the humor would be seen as inappropriate for, say, anyone younger than 18 (I kid). Anyway, every home should have this book, kids or no. It's just that fun to look at.
