sometimes you read number 13 on the new york times best seller list and it's bad! i was in the mood for a crime book and hoo boy, this one had crime. ex-cop turned private PI goes on a treasure hunt with a carmen-san-diego-esque mysterious figure in order to recover a turncoat mob accountant's fortune. positives: I liked the variety of characters that were distinctly different women, I enjoy that they weren't constantly being saved or incompetent, and they get (spoiler alert) a sweet found family ending. negatives: the main character's personality is a horrible combination of the tropes of Single Mom and Ex-Cop, the plot was two steps too convoluted for it to work as a mystery, and the author was obviously VERY proud he understands the blockchain and the "dark web".
