Spoiler alert for plot spoilers and also for spoiling reputation of this book: What an absolute piece of crap.  Setting aside the now overused misleading diary, which is telegraphed  early, this is repetitive lengthy poorly written drivel.  The novel’s start, where the protagonist witnesses a pedestrian getting his skull smashed by a car and the hardened New Yorkers just pass by is absurd. Has this Texan idiot ever been to New York City? Even in the big apple, people stop for tragedy.  The author then goes to Southport, NC to a house on the beach. Again, has she been there? The is no beach — the ocean front houses are across the street from the beach! You have to go to Oak Island for the beach! Also , the protagonist at one point says she’s going to stop reading the diary because it’s filled with too many repetitive explicit sex scenes….um this has to be intended as irony because this novel is replete with poorly written sex scenes where not one but two woman are so delighted my their partner that they can’t help but bite the top of the headboard during orgasm….the second woman even endeavors to put her bite mark in the same place as the prior biters?  Finally, the idiotic mystery twist is so inplausible!!! The reason for the diary is absurd! Really the high ratings on this book cause me to question our collective ethos.
