I love the idea of the Castle Perilous series, and have had plenty of good times with these characters. But this book felt a little tired and forgettable. A couple of the side plots are amusing. I had fun with Dalton and Thaxton doing the English Country House Murder detecting, and Rance's curse was entertaining, although, mild spoiler: . I'd have to talk about more spoilers, but let's just say where Gene, Linda, and Incarnadine's double are concerned, I was both bored and confused. This story felt like a whole bunch of nothing, unfortunately.
Spoiler
I was convinced Rance was Incarnadine! But then he wasn't, and we spent all this time with a character who isn't even going to be sticking around the castle?)Graphic: Death, Murder, Racism, Violence, Racial slurs, and Infidelity
Minor: Classism, Misogyny, and Rape
