Something from the Nightside by Simon R. Green

Having heard about this series for years from a good friend who really enjoys it, I was pumped to read this book.
Unfortunately, while I really do enjoy the world of the Nightside, the writing is so poor and the plot so ridden with cliche that I can't bring myself to read book 2 or recommend this book to anyone, unless they have low standards and are looking for some good mindless fantasy entertainment verging at times on horror.
So much potential, utterly ham strung by poor execution. I may give book 2 a try someday, but it won't be soon and my expectations won't be high.
