Reckless by Cornelia Funke

3.0

I read this book as a recommendation and it's been such a long time since I read anything by Cornelia Funke. I've read the Inkheart trilogy, Dragon Rider and The Thief Lord, all when I was 13 or around that age. So I was interested in finding more about this story that I had started to learn about before through my friend. After some of the things that I had read recently which were rather complex with the English language (eg. The Thorn Birds) the English in this book was very easy and simple to read. This created the effect in me that I was reading a fairytale or something in that genre, and actually, I really liked that - something I wasn't expecting! I've seen some people saying that the English in this book is clunky, maybe because of translation, but that just added to the reading experience fairytale-like feeling I had while reading. And I read this book in about 24 hours so clearly, I liked it. It didn't matter to me that, as some people mentioned, the chemistry is not always there between all the characters, or that they are not really introduced, because that, again, added to the fairytale-like feeling. And I have to say, I liked this book a lot. I liked the general plot and most of the characters (Fox is my favourite though) and, really, to read this after some of the more complex things I've been reading, this was really nice. I'm curious what happens in the next book (without giving away spoilers, maybe something about the price paid?) but I'm sure my friend will keep me informed :)
