The Secret French Recipes of Sophie Valroux by Samantha Verant

3.0

This was the light read I was looking for but I’m falling at 3 stars as I wanted a little more from it. Some other reviewers noted that Sophie wallowed in her misery for way too long and I have to agree, it bugged me. Even after she got to the chateau she was mired in self doubt to the point of annoyance. I kept with it because I liked a lot of the plot elements and the supporting characters as well as the question of her mother’s story plus who doesn’t love anything in France? I think the other bothersome thing was the believability of when she and some of the supporting characters come to their “aha” moments. It was kind of like a flick of the switch....it had me wondering why now? I think the character development would’ve helped me believe in those moments.
