I was expecting more monstrous things from Baru but in this one we get a lot of different point of views and a lot of moving back and forth from the main plot with Baru. She doesn't have as much control as she did in the first book. Reading this also took a while. I don't want to say it dragged, there was just a lot going on and often I didn't feel like I was making much progress through it.
