This book takes a while to get through, but that's nothing new if you have read Stephen King before. This is very different than the movie, and it's gruesome and terrible, but you want to keep reading it. Since it was written in the 70's there are racial slurs used by the evil in this book that could definitely be a turnoff for readers. However the good characters are truly good people and like other SK books that is what gets you: you relate to them enough to feel like it could be use in those shoes. Worth the read, but a dense, slow book so I likely won't read it a second time.
Graphic: Addiction, Alcoholism, Body horror, Child abuse, Gore, Physical abuse, Racial slurs, Racism, and Violence
Moderate: Sexism and Suicidal thoughts
