The Harpy by Megan Hunter

4.0

I will say nothing that spoils for this book for it is under 200 pages. I found it refreshing to have something I could consume so quickly and completely. The pacing of the book varies from fast to cherishing a single moment and making it last as long as possible. Oddly enough it reminded me of the story structure of handmaid’s tale but that’s just me. It was only when it was relevant did the main character have flashbacks it wasn’t random. The way the main character’s train of thought runs was my favorite part. It had moments where you felt relatable to the main character. The only reasons I don’t give this book 5 stars is because of two things. One I felt the whole start at one point of time and then rewinding really hurt the impact how much suspense the book could really build. I personally just don’t like that trope in general, but feels it really hurts the narrative here. Secondly as much as I loved the last part and ultimately how it ends I couldn’t help but feel like it was somewhat rushed. The book already had fast pace before but at the end it gets break neck speed. Which I liked I just wish it had more runway. Just a little bit more fleshed out and I would have called it perfect. That’s just me and my opinion.
