From a young age, Annie’s dream was to become a soldier, like her father and his friends. Meeting the shy Frankie added another dream to her list; marrying him.

Frankie was always self-conscious about the way his words sounded when speaking. Growing up deaf until he finally could hear after seven years of not being able to hear a thing made his speech different. Meeting Annie and getting to know her well made him realize that as long as Annie didn’t care how he sounded, he wouldn’t care too.

Years after Annie had achieved her dream of becoming a soldier, doubt crept in. Can Frankie, her fiance, keep giving up his dreams to follow her around every time she gets moved? Will she be able to always come back to him or would she die on a mission one day, leaving the man she loved behind?

With all the odds against them, Annie and Frankie’s relationship only got stronger throughout the years. Can they beat the odds once again?

Rescuing Annie is another heart-touching, romantic suspense story that has a lot to teach us about going after what we want and having people we love supporting our decisions no matter what they were. There are elements of military romance, too, with a badass female character.

Annie was always a favourite character to see appear in any of Susan Stoker’s books, after Tex, of course. She’s also one of the many reasons Rescuing Emily is my favourite from the Delta Force Heroes series. When she first made an appearance, she was an intelligent kid that captured the hearts of anyone she came in contact with.

Then Frankie made an appearance as the scared kid who didn’t want to sing his words because he was told it’s not manly to do so. Watching his relationship with Cooper change his mindset in Protecting Kiera and then his first time meeting Annie in a short story in “A Moment in Time” called The Gift. (Correct me if I’m wrong because I’m not sure if that was their first meeting). Frankie and Annie's story is heartwarming.

The ending of this one had me smiling. It was touching to see that the other characters were proud of Annie and the woman she became. This book will have a special place in my heart now. In the beginning, there was chaos and by the end, there was happiness that filled my heart with joy.
