The Crucible by Arthur Miller

5.0

Written in 1953, this play is a fictional work based on true historical facts: the Salem witch trial which originally took place in 1692.

I loved this play.
I loved how the reader is able to feel the panic, the anxiety, the paranoia taking over the town of Salem page by pages as more and more women are accused of witchcraft. While a witch hunt is declared, families are torn apart, friendships are broken and denunciation becomes commonplace to save one’s loved ones. Some even take advantage of the situation to settle their accounts with those against whom they have a grudge.
The masks fall and wrongful death sentences follow each other.

The Salem witch trial is the perfect illustration of mass hysteria. The play is beautifully written and easily readable and the historical period it reports is very interesting. I would really recommend to read it ! It’s short :)

I would absolutely love seeing the play!! I have not seen them but I know there are several movie adaptation too.
