I thought that this book was going to be very different than what it ended up being. More mystery novel than thriller, and even then..... it was not all that mysterious.
The biggest issue I had with it was that the writing was just.....not that great. It felt like the first book of an author trying to find their groove in the genre and the literary world in general. I also found the main twist to be extremely juvenile in setup and execution.
The one thing I did like about the book was that the FMC is Korean-American, so you get to hear a bit about her experiences and struggles in life due to her mixed culture and familial expectations. It really rounded her out as a character and brought her to life.
Maybe the next book will be more nuanced and feel less simplistic? I'm hoping so.
