Believe Me by JP Delaney

4.0

The book was really easy to read with short byte sized chapters and the fast paced plot in typical Delaney fashion!
We are in the head of the protagonist Claire Wright who is an undocumented and struggling British actress trying to make it in New York. Trying to make ends meet, she works illegally for a divorce law firm and ends up getting intertwined in the murder of one of their client Stella Folger. This connects claire’s path with Patrick Folger (the husband) and the story unfolds in unconceivable directions.
The book includes a lot of conversations playing out like plays in the protagonist’s mind. And there is a mix of media- emails, dialogues and poems. The story is interlaced with heavy references to Baudelaire’s poems about sex and death.
The book is a whirlwind read and you will not know which direction it’s going, but it’s a fun ride! Would recommend to anyone looking for a quick thriller read but be aware of the trigger warnings!
