This was one of those random books I picked up at a library discard sale years ago, then let languish on my bookshelf, and I'm happy I finally got around to it. I didn't have a lot of expectations going in, but I wholeheartedly enjoyed it. It definitely has its flaws, from a very trope-y cast, the occasional blatant Man Writing a Woman moments, and the genre-typical hero worship of law enforcement, but the main protagonist was compelling, I really enjoyed the themes about healing from trauma, and while it does feature extreme instances of sexual violence, they never felt voyeuristic and were treated with the gravity they deserved.
