Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength by John Tierney, Roy F. Baumeister

Did not finish book.

2.0

i actually didn’t finish this, but after three (3) separate attempts at trying to read it fully over the past 2 years i finally gave up at around page 190. for a book warning against “ego depletion” it does a mighty fine job of recreating that very experience with an overbearing and painfully unengaging reading experience. the authors seem far more interested in articulating their admiration for european colonizers and waging a passive-aggressive culture war through not-so subtle swipes towards “politically correct” culture than they do providing useful advice or even just providing the broader scientific consensus on the evidence they provide- which, in itself is mostly anecdotal.

many others seemed to have enjoyed this book, there’s certainly valuable insight buried in here, just not enough to make the sluggish read worthwhile for me
