The Bluff by Willa Nash, Devney Perry

4.0

“Who are you and what have you done with my scowling husband?” He flashed me his breathtaking smile. “My wife told me to work on that scowl.”

3.5 - 4 stars.

This is a small town marriage of convenience romance that starts with a one night stand. Hux has been trying to get custody of his 16 year old daughter for a long time. But he never succeeded and his lawyer suggests as a joke that things might be easier if he had a wife. Everly who overheard this offers to be his wife to help him out.

Let me start with Everly. She’s such a great character. She deserves the world but none of them except Lucy deserved her. She got so much crap from Hux and the people in his life. But every time she got down she puts on a smile and goes on.

Ok so Hux was frustrating a lot of times. He didn’t have it easy and it’s no surprise that he’s grumpy and closed off. But man did he screw up with Everly. There were times when I wanted to reach into the book and just slap him silly for the way he treated her. But then we get to his pov and see all the shit he’s went through and you feel bad for him. And there was some groveling in the end which helped. I just wish there was a chapter from his pov that showed us how miserable he was without Everly.

Overall I liked the writing and the characters. And I didn’t realize this was the second book of the series. There were mentions about things that happened in the first book and I’m definitely going to read it. And the teaser in the epilogue for the next book has me intrigued as well.
