"then why did you try to kill yourself?"
honestly this book was a hard pill to take. it was raw and brutal. it was triggering at some times. but it was also very relatable and truthful.
Jeff, our main character, tried to kill himself and now he is in a mental facility to talk about what happened. we follow his thoughts while he is in there. he is 15, so we see life thru a teenagers eye.
At first, Jeff didn't understood why he was there. Later on, he starts to be more open with us, the readers, and start to reveal parts of what happened in the night that brought us to the present. he deals with many types of mental health where he is, and he learns that everyone has a hard time.
I felt Jeff totally relatable at some point, i felt myself in him and that scared the living hell out of me. mental health should be treated as a sickness just like all the other body related diseases are. we are sick, our emotional is harmed, and we need help to get better. that's something that this book dwells upon.
This book also deals with discovering one's sexuality and the struggle that comes with that. learning that you are not the "normal" (hetero), it's hard. especially when everything around you and your whole life, you've been teached that being hetero is right and everything besides that is wrong.
Suicide notes was like someone is forcing you to see the truth, the ugly truth. Is like someone is forcing you to do the thing you are most scared of, just for u to see in the end that it gets better. It does. It gets better at some point. So please if u are dealing with mental health issues and with suicidal thoughts, or even struggling with your sexuality, please look for help — you are not alone.
