Hearing God: Developing a Conversational Relationship with God by Dallas Willard

This was a hard rating for me. I think that what Willard has to say is very important for Christians to understand. The points he makes about how to be in constant communication with God are thought-provoking and deep. From a material standpoint, this is a 4 star at least. However…it’s a 3 star for me because of the style of writing. This book was extremely dense and not written in a way that felt easily readable, or even manageably readable. I consider myself a strong reader with an interest in theology and philosophy, and this was difficult for me. I can’t imagine what this would be like for someone who genuinely wanted to learn but wasn’t able to sustain attention or follow what Willard was saying because of the way this book was written. It’s a shame, because, despite some disagreement with a few ideas in this book, I would say that it has a lot of great thoughts about a crucial topic for those who walk with Jesus.
