The Scent of You by Maggie Alderson

4.0

Despite having never read any of Maggie Alderson 's previous novels, I jumped at the chance to review The Scent of You when I saw its beautifully simplistic cover. Thankfully I wasn't disappointed!

The novel tells the story of Polly Masterson-Mackay, a yoga teacher, mother, wife, and an increasingly successful perfume blogger. Polly's husband mysteriously disappeared shortly before Christmas and the story begins, for us, on New Year's Eve with each subsequent chapter covering a day in Polly's life.

I have always had an interest in the work of perfumiers but regularly placed blog posts left me wanting to smell each of my perfumes with a newfound appreciation for the layering of fragrance notes. The stories of Polly's mother, Daphne, a now 85 year old former Vogue cover model, left me dreaming of Dior couture and Polly's early morning yoga classes, followed by steaming mugs of "builder's tea", is exactly the kind of health craze I can get behind!

Written in just under 500 pages the author is able to devote enough time to each of the interwoven stories to stop them becoming confusing or tedious, but if you find that 500 pages aren't enough and you need more, you can always follow Polly on Instagram @thescentofyou or you can even read her blog at fragrantcloud.net!

Thank you so much to the publisher for sending me a free copy to review!
