👸BOOK REVIEW👸 I've grown up on the Princess Bride movie so I can't help but review this book in comparison with its adaption. While I was excited to read the book, I was also nervous. I've heard some bad things about it, like people not liking the book versions of the characters or Goldman's many tangents. I didn't need to be worried. The book has the same nostalgic blend of adventure, romance, and comedy. Or rather, the movie captures the magic of the book perfectly.

Honestly, the book just expanded the fun of the movie for me. We get more details into character backgrounds and personalities. We get more funny moments. We get more of the framing story where the tale is being read to a sick kid, although Goldman frames it rather differently and incorporates multiple family stories of dubious truthfulness (which I don't mind one bit because I found it fun to read Goldman's character growth). One of the best parts of reading the novel for me was discovering that my favorite funny moments from the movie are original to the book, such as the "mawage" scene, Valerie yelling at Max, "Inconceivable!", etc. sure, Sure, the movie condenses and simplifies plot elements, but having read the book, I now consider it one of the best adaptations I've ever seen.

The book also introduces me to Goldman as a very entertaining narrator. I love his dramatic tale of trying to adapt "Morgenstern's" original story. He has of silliness and sarcasm that was so fun to read mixed in with what people consider to be the core story. I loved the Easter egg of the reunion scene and his mocking of the parts of the "original" Princess Bride that he cut out. The only complaint I can think of is that there is a bit more violence in the book than the movie.

If anyone is interested in a more in-depth comparison of book and movie that says what I'm trying to say more eloquent, I recommend checking out Dominic Noble's video on The Princess Bride on YouTube. :)
