Ever the Brave by Erin Summerill

3.0

Okay, so, I didn't review it, but I really liked Ever the Hunted. Really liked it. So I had high hoped for Ever the Brave, and though I enjoyed it, it was a little disappointing too.

What I liked:
Still really like Britta. I love this smart and badass lady. I love her story and getting to see it continue. That she will do anything for the people she cares about. I just really enjoy her.
Still really like the world. I always like fictional politics so a lot of this was fun.
I liked Aodren as a character, his willingness to do whatever he has to do help his people is a good trait for a leader to have.

What I didn't like:
I loved that the first book did not have a love triangle. I love a good solid relationship, or none at all, and Ever the Hunted sort of gave me both. Britta was solid with no love interest, then when it began it was a solid relationship. But then I hit the second book and boom, love triangle. Jealous boyfriend. Ugh. I don't want it, let me just have characters with a solid relationship. It just felt unnecessary. I wish it had been left be.
And to be honest, I kind of wish she had chosen the Aodren, because for most of the book I really didn't like Cohen. He bothers me so much, it felt manipulative, doubting of her abilities, aggressively over protective and jealous, and it's not til towards the end of the book that he actually chills out a bit and isn't obnoxious. It just bothers me.
