Along Came a Spider by James Patterson

2.0

this was a thoroughly "ok" book. i didnt really have a problem with cross, though he did seem to underreact sometimes...a kidnapper and known child murderer is on the loose, calling you out specifically for some unknown reason to deliver a huge ransom, and the culprit escapes. cross knows he is a target and has two young children of his own, but he spends a unsettling amount of time on getaways with the unfortunately named and extremely boring jezzie. i also didnt care for the shifting pov from first to third, and HATED the maggie rose pov. i am usually pretty forgiving when it comes to stylistic choices, especially if the story is compelling (like this one claimed to be), but i found myself reading passages and noticing how awkwardly worded they were. it took me out of the environment the book tried to create.

all that said, i finished it in about 3 sittings. the main antagonist is fairly interesting, as well as nana mama and sampson. i dont think i will be rushing out to read the sequel though.
