Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving

3.0

This book consists primarily of Irving’s own tellings of folklore from places such as New York, England, Germany, and Spain. The parts that were not as captivating for me were worth spending time on to later relish the fantastic tales of satire, history, ghosts, and pirates. The edition I read is actually a compilation of Irving’s writings titled “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and other selections from Washington Irving”. There are a total of 22 tales and other writings. My favorites that I found most enjoyable, beyond “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and “Rip Van Winkle”, are: “The Spectre Bridegroom”; “English Writers on America”; “The Mutability of Literature”; “The Creole Village”; “The Adventure of the German Student”; “The Adventure of the Mason”; “The Guests from Gibbet Island”; and “The Legend of Don Muniz Sancho de Hinojosa”.
