How to Love a Duke in Ten Days by Kerrigan Byrne

4.0

really torn between 4 and 5 on this one but...ugh...

BIG GIGANTIC TRIGGER WARNING FOR A PAST INCIDENT OF SEXUAL ASSULT THAT IS DESCRIBED (THOUGH NOT VIVIDLY) AND THEN PLAYS A BIG ROLE IN THE ENTIRE PLOT AND QUITE A FEW OF THE MAIN CHARACTER INTERACTIONS FOR THE WHOLE BOOK.

Everyone got that? Cool. Cause I sure somehow fricking missed it. Even the #metoo, in the beginning, didn't prepare me properly.

Other than that I can honestly say I totally loved this. Our hero was surprisingly swoon-worthy, I certainly swooned.

“All I’m asking is for you to have mercy on me, wife. If there is a battle to fight, a villain to face, I beg you to allow me the honor. Because the cruelest thing you could do, is sentence me to a world without you in it.”

And our heroine for all her rather valid trauma was still awesome and accomplished, her friend group felt genuine and I loved to see their interactions.

There were a few times when the writer pierced my damn soul right in the middle of a smutty scene and that was a very weird experience. For example, when she said the character didn't resist him so that he technically wouldn't have an opportunity to force her and my entire comment on that scene was just "FUCKING OOOOF THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A SEX SCENE STOP TRIGGERING ME".

I loved the final few chapters when he comes to a realization of their roles and what he's been acting like and feels sufficient enough self-hatred to fire my loins, I would have liked to see some groveling though. There was some but not enough to satisfy my grovel kink. I want the whole kneeling begging shebang, thank you, and goodbye.

All in all a solid read.
