Batman: Battle for the Cowl by Tony S. Daniel

4.0

More like a 3.5. I liked Nightwing and Tim Drake in this and I loved the Nightwing-as-Batman storyline that Grant Morrison did so it was nice to go back before that. However I thought some of the other characterization was off (especially Damian Wayne in parts) and while I liked the art style the aggressive cheesecake got to be a bit much. I trust that Vicki Vale and Black Canary have asses that just won't quit, I don't need to see them front and center every single time they're on-panel. My favorite egregious ass-shot had to be when Nightwing was giving the Gotham heroes an inspiring speech and Black Canary and another heroine (maybe Huntress, I can't remember) decided that they would listen but only if they could be standing with their asses towards him while they craned their upper torsos around enough to show off at least one of their perky tits. This is a comic book staple pose and I challenge every artist who does it to stand like that for ten minutes every morning as penance.
