The character arcs alone are reason enough to give this book 5 stars.  Once again Wang has written deeply complex female characters (and just her characters in general) that shows a main character doesn’t have to be likably to be compelling. 

But this book will also get 5 stars for the incredible world building, intricate magic system and the discussion on so many themes that hit every nail on the head.
