Has everything what makes a typical Murakami book. If you like Murakamis work it's worth a read. I wouldn't recommend it as an introduction to his books, mainly because I find this book to be more repetetive and slow than other books I read by him. Usually I love the magical realism and mystery in Murakamis books, but this time I was more interested in the relationships between the characters and their interactions with each other. Because of that I found the magical parts to be a little bit frustrating to read at times. I just wanted to know more about the people. Not sure, if I'm going to read the second one.
