Solid advice without being patronizing or preachy. He really doesn't tell you what you should be spending your money on. He's all about managing your money (budgeting!) so that you can spend it on things you want and not end up wasting it on non-priorities/things you don't care about.
Of course he plugs his budgeting tool lots, but that's expected and easy to ignore.
The first half of the book is about budgeting and his Four Rules. The other half is about budgeting with your SO, teaching your kids about budgeting, and a focus on debt.
