Empty Smiles by Katherine Arden

3.0

I really liked reading the Small Spaces series by Katherine Arden, but I do think that in the end the solutions to the problems were a bit too easy for me to fully enjoy everything.

It all started out strong with books 1 and 2, of which I liked the settings, the spookiness, the most, and I rewarded those stories with an easy 4 stars each. Then came book 3, which did not do much for me, hence the 3 stars, and then we got book 4, which should have been a spectacular ending to a great series with only book 3 as its weakness, but even though the setting was okay, the ending came way too abruptly and left me feeling a bit empty...

I would still recommend reading this work if you are a fan of middle grade horror, but after a while the enemy is made too weak to really be afraid of him, and defeating him becomes easy. Another 3 stars.

Happy Reading!
