The Journey of Ibn Fattouma by Naguib Mahfouz

4.0

Maybe like 3.75 stars?
This marks the second book that I have read out loud to Rachel (as an Audriobook, if you will) and we had a good time! She had to read it for an Arabic Literature course and it was nice to read something I would have never otherwise reached for without having to write any papers about it.
Despite its short length and its simple writing style, I think we still got a good look into the life and motivations of the main character. The overall moral of the story was pretty clear but still left some room for analysis and individual interpretation. Any ambiguity felt warranted and added to the story. If you're looking to read more non-Western literature (which truly, we all should be) I think this is a quick, easy, and fun one which gives interesting insight to Arabic culture.
