I read this because I've seen it in the recommended reads section on bookish sites I frequent based on what I read and because it was short and available.
I didn't know any of the outside noise about this author/book. This book is pitched as an accessible leap into feminism. At that I think it succeeds. It has a bunch of mantras and distills a lot of ideas very easily and conversationally. The idea that you don't owe people your time, you don't need to spend time around people who drain you, you don't owe people pretty or niceness, and some of the other ideas here are ideas many still desperately need to heal and learn.
If you're looking for a in-depth, academic, or more than feminism 101 book, this isn't for you. It's a clear conversational intro rather than an in-depth look. It also has a very conversational tone and friendly one. If that's not your style, this isn't for you.
Good, not great. But I think it would be a good one for a certain type of reader who may need to hear some of these messages. Some of us think, "I've been hearing these messages for a long time." And that's true. But others haven't heard these messages.
I felt like it said a lot of buzzword statements that are good affirmations, but it wasn't my fav in the genre. Covers a lot of ground, but doesn't spend much time on any one thing.
