The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy

5.0

I used to think that Pat Conroy was just a pulpy, beach-read kind of author. Two years ago, while vacationing in Charleston, I picked up South of Broad. I was impressed. This year, while vacationing in Beaufort (Conroy's hometown), I decided to pick up his magnum opus, Prince of Tides.

This novel is tragic, hysterical, and beautiful all at the same time. There is so much depth to each character. The descriptions of the Low Country make you feel like you can smell the salty air. I won't be waiting until vacation to read my next Conroy novel.
