This book offers a poignant exploration of Black life during Jim Crow. While the writing is beautiful and the central character is compelling, the narrative occasionally falters with the inclusion of nested stories.
All in all, it’s a worthwhile read for those interested in historical fiction and themes of identity, self discovery and resilience.
