I am very disappointed in The Blood Gift. It just didn't slap like The Blood Trials. I was really excited to read The Blood Gift in the beginning but as I kept going I got more and more annoyed with the glaring plot holes and the book focusing on two big baddies at the same time rather than just focusing on one. The pacing was everywhere and at times it just dragged you along especially towards the end. The plot as a whole needed more structure. It felt like the author had a lot of ideas and could not fix on one of them, so she told all of them. The story just did not feel as connected to a goal as the first one did. It's very messy and unsatisfying.
I think my biggest issues aside from the major plot structure issues with The Blood Gift are the introduction of the additional gods to the story and getting to "meet"Ikenna's father . If there was going to be another book, then the god plot points could have legitimately stayed and be valuable to the story because what happens in the end could lead into another book. As for Ikenna's father , we got to meet him for five minutes and then two hundred pages later, Ikenna kills him. Dude was just there for shock factor and then we never see him again or get any exploration on what it means to have him exist in that space and how it effects Ikenna and who she is.
