The Awakening: Book One in the Zombie Uprising Series is a book about the beginning of the zombie uprising. It takes place in Alaska. Unusual heating patterns have started melting the permafrost uncovering a burial ground of nineteenth-century whalers.

First off, this is a novella, not a novel. I don’t know if that is a marketing ploy to get you to buy later novellas in the series or what, but it feels deceitful. I’m glad this was part of the Kindle Unlimited program and that I’m a member because I would be mad to have paid full price for this piece of a novel. Secondly, I detest a main character who is sullen for very little cause. She is very single toned in voice. Whiny. She has a B.S. (inferred) and she wants to lead the group which has a couple of PhDs, including her famous father. She is headstrong in the bad way.

The marketing, tone and single line character development make this one a pass. Not recommended.
