It's no secret that the fantasy genre is one of my least favorites, but I think that if someone was going to make me love a story like this madly, without a doubt, it was going to be this author: I really enjoyed the world she built for this story, the main and secondary characters, the plots, the secrets and everything that Lexi discovers about her new life throughout the book. Plus, I love that we can notice the characteristic style of J Rose / Jessalyn Thorn in each of her books.

If You Break is, primarily, Lexi's story, a girl with a heartbreaking story and a complicated life that gets even more difficult when she dies and wakes up as a part of The Redeemed, a secret society of people who managed to live beyond death. One of the things I loved most about reading Lexi, but that also broke my heart, was the love she has for Eve, her little sister who was left alone after her death, but despite that, I really liked that in Felix and Michael she found the friends that she had never been able to have before.

Another part of the plot that I really enjoyed was the way in which The Vitae leads Lexi to meet Daniel and Valentine, two former best friends with a very interesting past that unites their lives in a very painful way and that complicates the feelings they both have for Lexi a little more. I think I can say that, so far, Daniel is my favorite: I really like how everything starts between him and Lexi, how he's able to be vulnerable and let her know his insecurities regarding his feelings, but what I loved most about Daiel was reading him showing his love even when he tries to stay away from Lexi and how in those first interactions she is not afraid to let him know what she thinks.

Of course, that doesn't mean that I haven't fallen a little in love with Valentine as well, particularly with his attempts to resolve his past with Daniel, and the ease with which he accepts his bond with Lexi, I love that Valentine is the more carefree and flirtatious of the two, that he still has a story to tell about his past and the origin of The Redeemed and I'm dying to kno whow the relationship he shares with the other two main characters, and with his brothers, will continue to develop.

One of the main reasons why I didn't enjoy the fantasy much is because, sometimes, the construction and explanation of the world where the story takes place overshadows the love story a little, BUT in If You Break that didn't happen: it's the perfect balance between the two worlds and, without a doubt, the plot is one of the best things this story has. The secrets that Lexi discovers about herself and the new world she inhabits hooked me on the story from the beginning, the twists that the author gave to the plot were great and the ending left me needing the next book right away and creating a lot of theories in my head.
