I have to say that the Animorphs series goes dark and hard and it really showed in this book. We got attempted s*icide atte*mpts, we got war, child soldiers, conflicting moralities. It was geniunely jarring to read Tobias' thought process and now I understand his thought processes. The scenes with Tobias' human and hawk minds conflicting was so heartbreaking and dear God, this boy needs a break. The consequences of morphing was thorougly explored over the course of the series with its body horror and mind-alternations.
Man, when Marco said that he wanted to quit the Animorphs, I felt that in my bones. I would have quit on Day 1 lmao
3.9 / 5 C+
