Hang the Moon by Jeannette Walls

adventurous dark tense medium-paced

4.0

A captivating story touching on a battle over family business succession, racial tension in a poor rural county, family secrets, and land conflict, all with the prohibition war looming as its backdrop. Walls' excellent construction of the main female characters is the most satisfying bit, with their layered and colorful personalities representing women with varying morals from all walks of life. Hang The Moon is a big, scandal-filled tale about large characters in a tough world. Not for everyone, but definitely worth a read.
