Made for Love by Alissa Nutting

After reading Tampa this one didn't have a chance. It's so much more all over the place and meandering and unfocused in comparison. Maybe I would have liked it more without something to compare it to but Tampa is so perfect, this felt rushed and expansive in a bad way. The dialogue didn't feel real to the characters a lot, just points the author wanted to get out, and gave people these really long monologues that didn't make total sense in context. She really likes writing about taboo sexual urges/desires- obviously pedophilia and then in here the dolls and the dolphins. But this novel didn't feel like it had enough work making the absurd feel grounded and believable, some of it just felt off the wall for the sake of absurdity, which, god bless but for me it didn't feel cohesive or earned maybe. Seems like a better TV show than movie and maybe that was the hope? Felt like Chuck Palahniuk fan fic at points, in a sloppy way. Overall just less impressive than the first. Glad people liked it and she's doing well, love Teenage Euthanasia. An interesting listen.
