Forty-some people remain in Auchenmullen, a small dying town in Scotland. 450ish years ago, men from the town brutally murdered a woman named Maggie Wall under accusations of witchcraft. Maggie wasn't a witch, but she died with a witch's curse on her lips. The town has felt the repercussions since, and every so often, Maggie awakes and exacts her revenge.

This time, she's awoken by the town's four youngest children - a quartet of lost souls in their late teens. They spend a long, violent night trying to survive Maggie's wrath.

Y'all,  this was a wild ride, with some of the most creative, gruesome moments I've read in...ever. Sodergren delivers a scary, suspenseful story that, if it had been a movie, would have had me curled in a ball peeking through my fingers (it's hard to read a book that way though). I guessed the big twist pretty early on, but that in no way diminished my total enjoyment of this horror tale.
