Did not finish book. Stopped at 25%.

Ok I dithered over reading this for like 12 years after that one quote made the rounds on Tumblr. Despite being a Valente fan, I am sad to say this book feels very dated from what I read of it. It truly reads like something from that 2011 era. I have a low tolerance for m/f, so something like this is really too much for me. I think if I had read it at the time, I would have liked it more. But my tastes have changed a lot since then. The writing is nice, but I’ve been far more impressed with Valente’s later work. I found myself so disconnected once Marya meets Koschei. And then after that first sex scene I was like, okay I’m done. Considering the whole book is about them, I don’t think I’m going to enjoy the rest of it.
