Delicious in Dungeon, Volume 1 by Ryoko Kui

So far, Delicious in Dungeon is ridiculous...and I like it that way.

The story starts off wanting you to take it seriously, but dwindles into just a stupid / funny party of adventurers losing it while excitedly (or forcedly) eating monsters. Its sort of formulaic and drags on with explanations of...many things. Despite that, the over-exposition actually makes for some pretty fun worldbuilding. When characters go to collect ingredients, they end up finding out the inner-workings of the monster, or discussing some ways a monster may be used in the surface world rather than the dungeon. The only time where the pacing REALLY bothered me was in the first chapter. Other than that, though, my experience was smooth sailing.

Art-wise, DiD is fantastic. All the characters look different and have a great sense of shape languange, which fits for the classic dungeon exploration concept. There are a ton of panels that made me laugh with weird facial expressions (looking at you, Marcille!) and helped exaggerate the characters a lot.

TL;DR: Fun fantasy with immersive worldbuilding and wacky little cast of characters. It takes a while to get used to the 'rhythm' of the story, but it's worth it. Definitely reading the next volume! (3.5/5)
