The Perfect Nine: The Epic of Gĩkũyũ And Mũmbi by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o

3.0

An oral epic put on paper, the Perfect Nine are the ten daughters of Gĩkũyũ and Mũmbi. All daughters are blessed with beauty, skill, and bravery. Dozens of suitors come to woo them, but only those who can venture out to find the cure for the youngest daughter’s immobile legs will win the hearts of her sisters. A quick and interesting bit of folklore/mythology with strong matriarchal themes, though the adventure is fairly par for the course.
